What Is Travertine

May 24, 2018
travertineTravertine, a porous rock, is commercially classified as a marble. Travertine is a continental sedimentary rock and is a deposit of calcium carbonate. Since pores sometimes appear during the process of re-stacking, and because its own main component is calcium carbonate itself, it is easily dissolved by water, so many natural irregular pores will appear in these deposits.

Travertine is named because it has many holes on its surface. The stone's scientific name is travertine or travertine. Commercially, it is classified as marble. Mankind used this stone for a long time, and it can best represent the architecture of Roman culture. The arena is a masterpiece of Travertine.

The color of the travertine is mostly beige, which makes people feel gentle, rich in texture and clear stripes. The decorative buildings often have strong cultural and historical charm and are used by many buildings in the world. The interior and exterior decoration of the Bank of China Tower in Xidan Road, Beijing, designed by the United States Berhad Architects, selected the Roman cave stone in Italy and shared 20,000 m2. Why not call it marble? Because its texture and appearance are completely different from the marble in the traditional sense, and the decorative world simply sets itself apart. Its formation is generally considered to be a calcareous material precipitated from carbonated spring water (usually a hot spring) under atmospheric conditions. The specific formation is that the circulating groundwater containing carbon dioxide has taken away a large amount of calcium carbonate in the solution. When the groundwater reaches the surface of the spring, some of the carbon dioxide is released and condensed in the sediment layer of calcium carbonate, forming a rare Bubbles (holes) and thus travertine. Unlike limestone deposits found in the oceans, most of them are rapidly deposited in rivers, lakes, and ponds. This rapid deposition prevents the release of organic matter and gases, resulting in a beautiful texture, but it is also disadvantageous. This creates a layer of internal cracks that weakens it in line with the strength of the grain. Because of the holes in the travertine, its unit density is not large and it is suitable as a covering material. It is not suitable for construction materials and basic materials of construction. People have used travertine as a base material and structural material for construction, but with concrete, they are not used much. In addition to yellow travertine, there are many kinds of green, white, purple, pink, brown and so on.

Travertine is mainly used in exterior wall decoration and interior floor and wall decoration.

Classification:

Travertine is generally divided into white travertine and beige travertine. There are two kinds of color: some are called yellow pebbles and white pebbles. The English name is travertine. Its main characteristic is that carbonate minerals have gas in the deposition process and form many holes.

Various types of travertine, such as Roman Travertine, Iranian travertine, and Turkey, are commonly used. The Roman travertine has a darker color, texture is more obvious, and the material is better. The health travertine stone has a lighter color, crisp texture, and poor strength. This type of stone can be polished, has obvious texture features, bending strength is anisotropic, the vertical texture direction (strong direction) bending strength is about 6MPa, some more than 7MPa; the parallel texture direction (weak direction) bending strength is 4MPa Left and right, materials and patterns are sometimes about 5MPa, and sometimes very low not more than MPa; chaotic grain direction is in between, and the texture at this time is in the thickness direction.

Advantage:

1. The travertine stone has a uniform lithology, a low texture and hardness, is very easy to be mined and processed, has a light specific gravity (density) and is easy to transport, and is a building stone with a wide range of uses;

2. Travertine has good processing, sound insulation and heat insulation, can be used in deep processing, and is an excellent building decoration material;

3Dense texture of travertine, high processing adaptability, low hardness, easy to engrave, suitable for use as carving material and special-shaped timber;

4. The travertine is rich in color, unique in texture, and has a special hole structure, which has a good decorative performance. At the same time, due to the natural holes and beautiful texture of the travertine, it is also a good material for bonsai, rockery and other garden stones.

The texture of the natural travertine stone is clear and gentle, rich in texture. It comes from natural sources but goes beyond natural. The finished products are dense, dense and congruent. They seem to have just come from the soil. On the texture and texture of textures, there are traces of prehistoric civilization, but its overall shape can be described as “modern fashion”. It highlights a masterly style of design that embodies honor, elegance, and top-notch product characteristics. It is deeply loved by many architects.
